Review of Daughtry Concert
The Gothic Theatre
August 16, 2009
According to The Gothic's website, their doors opened at 6:00 for this event. The line started forming around 4:30 and flowed from the front doors of The Gothic all the way down the street and around the corner. Flocks of people, a good majority of them female, were gathering to catch a glimpse of this 2006 voted off American Idol contestant. Looks like losing on American Idol in 2006 has proven to be a blessing in disguise for this rock star.
First appearing on stage was the drummer, Joey Barnes. Mr. Barnes was scantily clad in his bright green....underwear! Yes, ladies, underwear! I have to admit, I have a bit of a crush on this guy. He is cute, but more in a clean-cut kind of way than dirty rock star way. He can definitely play the drums too!
With a mohawked bass player, Josh Paul, Daughtry did not disappoint. The house was packed, and the heat was intense. Not just from the band, but the actual venue was sultry. I had two complaints about the show. First, it was too damn hot in the venue. The venue is really old, and the circulation is something to be desired. And, they sold too many tickets so people were lined up like sardines. Second, Daughtry did not play "What About Now," which I was expecting to hear since they had a moderate hit out of it.
The music made it all worth it though. With each and every song, there was not a closed mouth in the whole joint. People knew the tunes word for word. Because of the small size of The Gothic, I'm sure Daughtry could see many fans belting those tunes out with as much passion as he himself. That must be very gratifying for Mr. Daughtry and the whole band.
Definitely worth seeing!
